Sacraments of Initiation
Baptism-there are two processes for baptism.
1. Infant up to age 6 baptisms. To prepare for this kind of baptism, the parent(s) and child meet with the parish director for baptismal preparation. There is a video that reflects on the symbols of baptism. The rest of the session includes an overview of the ritual at mass, and other information. There is a folder full of useful, prayerful information on the sacrament of baptism.
2. Baptism of age 7 to adults. A child reaches an age of reason at about 7 years old. People desiring to be baptized enter into a period of preparation that is generally 8-10 months or more depending on their needs. The preparation includes heart and head experiences. They are also confirmed and receive 1st Communion.
Confirmation-at present there are three processes in place for confirmation.
1. High School: A person baptized catholic and in the junior level of high school, who has been attending religious education, enters a period of preparation for Confirmation with the sacrament celebrated generally in April or May with St. Joseph parish of Wautoma. This preparation includes participation in the Generations of Faith monthly program.
2. 7 and older unbaptized: see baptism of age 7 to adults.
3. Adults: A person who is baptized either in the Catholic Faith or another Christian Faith may enter in to a process of preparation for Confirmation. The length of this process depends on the needs of the person!
Eucharist-two processes
1. Children who are in 2nd grade or older may prepare for their 1st Holy Communion through the Generations of Faith program.
2. Adults who are baptized Catholic but have not received the sacrament of Eucharist are able to enter into a period of preparation for this sacrament and for Confirmation! The length of this depends on the needs of the individual.
3. Those who are not Catholic but baptized into another faith and wishing to become Catholic may participate in a process for the sacrament of Eucharist and Confirmation with a profession of faith.
